Psalms: Truth and Treasures 12

main image

One thing I hope we have learned in these weeks of threat of infection and isolation, it that life is fragile. Psalm 90 reminds us of our mortality and how fleeting this life is. We are encouraged in this Psalm to number our days that we may gain a heart of wisdom. Spending time with God each day provides us a time to be still and learn from our time with God and His Word.
There is also a prayer to God in this Psalm, that He would return and have compassion on us. There is a cry to God for mercy that we may once again be glad and rejoice, and may the beauty of the Lord be upon us. These are times to appeal for the mercy of God. Jeremiah cried out to God in “lamentations” chapter 3 and he said “Because of Your mercy we are not consumed, Your compassions for us never fail, they are renewed every morning because great is Your faithfulness.” May we trust in the mercy of God today.

Psalms: Truth and Treasures 11

This Psalm has been a treasure to me. About 15 years ago, the Lord God was drawing me deeper into fellowship with Him as I began to learn more about the ministry of the Holy Spirit. I was blessed to become acquainted with the writings and testimony of Bertha Smith. This wonderful servant of The Lord was used powerfully by God to help Southern Baptist learn how to be filled with the Holy Spirit and to rely on Him. Miss Bertha’s favorite Psalm was Psalm 71.
After being on the mission field in China for almost 50 years and in one of the greatest revivals in history, in China, she came home at the age of 70. Her prayer to God was Psalm 71: 17-18. For the next 30 years, she traveled all over America as God answered her prayer, to allow her to declare His truth to the coming generations. These verses from Psalm 71: 17 &18,  have become my prayer for the future. My hope and trust are in God.
