Psalms: Truth and Treasures Day 8

We live in a fallen world where sin is rampant and temptations are everywhere. It is easy to compromise and get in line with the world’s values. For a Christian, who is not of the world, everyday is a challenge. We have within us the desire to live holy and not give in to the temptations of the world. We need the power supplied by the Holy Spirit to overcome the flesh and the things of the world. These are the reasons why spending time with God each day is so vital for us. In Psalm 42, the writer of this Psalm is expressing in verse one his absolute need for what only God can supply. The deer being chased by the hounds needs the life-sustaining water in the brook to keep him ahead of his pursuers. We are in desperate need each day for fellowship with God where we can be refreshed to continue to persevere in life. Spending time with God is to drink from His well and the endless supply of life-giving water.

Spending time with God daily helps us to learn to wait on Him. Patience is not something that comes naturally to most of us. When we grow in our faith and learn to wait on God, we can be blessed as David was.
David was often thinking about God and how wonderful God was to him but David was blessed to know that God was thinking about him. I’m verses 5 and 17 David is amazed that Holy God thinks about him. It is wonderful to know that God thinks about you, that the God of this universe has you in His thoughts.
Isaiah was inspired by God to remind us that those who wait upon the Lord would have their strength renewed and mount up with wings like eagles. I hope this time of social isolation will be the time we draw close to God, wait on Him to renew and refresh us, and mount up with supernatural power to be a church that honor our Lord. Pray for a national revival and may it begin in us.
