Acts of the Holy Spirit: Chapter 21

main image

In this chapter, Paul is completing his work as a missionary to Europe and Asia. He is about to depart for his last trip to Jerusalem where he knows he will be arrested. On his journey to Jerusalem, he makes several stops and finds disciples everywhere he goes. In the city of Tyre he finds disciples and stays with them a few days. It is a beautiful picture here to see these disciples, including women and children, accompany Paul down to the sea shore. There they get down on their knees and Pray with Paul as his boards the ship to sail away. Paul must have been greatly comforted by this expression of love from these believers. It is the love of Christ that binds Christians together. This bond is shared with believers all over the world. It is the Holy Spirit that makes this bond possible as He dwells in the heart of all “born again” believers.

Acts of the Holy Spirit: Chapter 20

This in some ways is a sad chapter, for Paul is beginning his journey to Jerusalem for the last time. Paul knows the persecution that is waiting for him in Jerusalem. He is traveling to the churches in Asia for the last time, to say farewell. It is a touching moment when he says goodbye to the Christians from Ephesus. He tells them that they will never see him again.
When we have to be separated from our Christian brothers and sisters, because of death, we experience the loss of their fellowship. This was what these believers were experiencing with Paul’s departure. Paul was finishing his course in life. In verse 24 Paul said he wanted to finish his race with joy doing the ministry that Jesus had laid out for him. This should be our goal as we journey through life. May we finish well as Paul did and bring glory to our Lord and Savior.
