The Holy Spirit was leading Paul and his companions on a journey that took them to many places preaching the gospel of Jesus Christ. In chapter 19 we find them in Ephesus and many people in this huge city turn from idols to worship the true and living God. For centuries, the culture of Ephesus had centered around the worship of the goddess Diana and people all over the world came to worship in the huge temple of Diana in Ephesus. When many people in the city turned to faith in Christ the culture was being threatened. This is the impact that the Word of God preached under the anointing of the Holy Spirit, can have on a huge area.

    Satan stirred up a uproar in the city in opposition to the gospel. This serves as a reminder that sharing the gospel will not always be easy. God just desires that we be faithful and trust Him to take care of us. This also serves to remind us that places of entrenched evil and idolatry can be transformed by the gospel and the power of the Holy Spirit.

In chapter 18 Paul is in Corinth to begin with and he is frustrated and God strengthens him through the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit also brings a Christian couple into Paul’s life to serve with him. It is wonderful to know that God will supply all that we need as we go through this life and serve Him. Paul spent a year and a half in this couple’s home and had many opportunities to teach them some deep spiritual truths of God.

    Paul leaves this couple in Ephesus as he moves on. While they were in Ephesus, they have an opportunity to help a gifted young preacher to understand the Word of God more fully. This couple, Aquila and Priscilla, were a channel of blessing as they received and as they gave. We can be a channel of blessing also if we are willing to give to others as God gives to us.
