Wisdom for Life's Journey - Proverbs 18

main image

The Bible is a book about relationships. We have a lot of wisdom in God’s Word that teaches us how to relate to God and each other. Proverbs 18 talks a lot about relationships. In verse 1 we are encouraged not to isolate ourself from others. The Bible warns us not to forsake the assembling of ourselves together. We need each other and fellowship among our brothers and sisters is beautiful and pleases God.  We are warned to guard our tongue because the tongue can easily offend and and cause division among us. Proverbs 18:21 says “Death and life are in the power of the tongue.” The tongue can build up or destroy. Only God can control our tongue. May we experience great fellowship between ourselves and  God and our brothers and sisters in Christ.

Wisdom for Life's Journey - Proverbs 17

main image

There is much wisdom to be found in these Proverbs from God. With all the chaos, confusion, rioting and protesting going on in our society today, there is a definite need for wisdom. In Proverbs 17:14 it says “The beginning of strife is like releasing water; therefore stop contention before a quarrel starts.”  There is wisdom in disarming a situation before it escalates and believers should model good behavior. We are reminded in verse 15 that “He who justifies the wicked and he who condemns the just, both of them alike are an abomination to the Lord.”
This Proverb closes with a reminder in verse 27 that ”He  has knowledge spares his words and a man of understanding is of a calm spirit.” May we seek wisdom from the Lord daily and put into practice what we learn from Him.
