Wisdom for Life's Journey - Proverbs 27

main image

We know from God’s Word that one who humbles himself before God will be exalted and he who exalts himself will be humbled. We are given some wise counsel in Proverbs 27 about how we perceive ourselves. Verse 2 says “Let another man praise you and not your own mouth; a stranger and not your own lips.” We are further reminded in verse 21 that “The refining pot is for silver and the furnace for gold , and a man is valued by what others say of him.”
This Proverb teaches us to treasure our friends and neighbors. “ Better is a neighbor nearby than a brother far away.” As iron sharpens iron, so a man sharpens the countenance of his friend.” Thank God for those precious people he has put in your life.

Wisdom for Life's Journey - Proverbs 26

main image

The Bible speaks to every situation in life and is relevant to all generations. We find in the 26th Proverb a lot of advice concerning foolish people. Fools are known by their much speaking and the motives behind their words. There is much wisdom offered in how to deal with those who attempt to divide and slander. We are not to honor them. When we do we arm them to do further damage. Verse 8 says “Like one who binds a stone in a sling is he who gives honor to a fool.” “Where there is no wood the fire goes out, where there is no talebearer strife ceases.” We must be careful as Christians with what we say especially over social media. May we not fuel the fires of strife by repeating rumors or saying anything negative or offensive  about others.  Ask the Lord to control our tongue and the “send” button on our phones.
